The british invasion - north of Thailand
Hello and good morning from Laos,
it has been a while since my last
entry. Thats why i need to keep it short and will update the last 3 weeks with
less words than i would have in mind. I need to update my blog more frequently
and with more discipline.

Anyway. First impression of Thailand: Oh god, that is quite a number of
tourists here. Seriously, after Myanmar it was a shock for me, when i arrived in
Chiang Mai. The asian look disappears and the western holiday party vibe takes
over.
As i mentioned already, the first nights in Thailand i spent in a
party hostel in Chang Mai. Loads of drinking. 90 percent british people, that
wanna spend a couple of weeks and party the hell out of their lives. A lot of
those guy get stuck and start to volunteer and in the party hostels such as
Bodega, in which i stayed.
To avoid encountering drunk party people and get drawn into their rituals, i
rented a motorbike and spend a whole day on a mountain near Chiang Mai.
This
was actually the first time ever, that i rode a motorbike that was able to go up
to 80km/h. In Austria u would a particular motorbike driver license to do so. In
Thailand you pay 20 Dollars if you get pulled over by the police. Lucky for me,
i think the ride was the best thing of the day. To ride up the mountain with
almost no approaching traffic is certainly one of the best things to do
here.
In that case, the journey truly was the destination. The temple and the
waterfall i went to were quite neat, but the best thing was definitely the ride
with the motorbike.
In the evening i was persuaded to join the partypeople
for the beer bong tournament. Although without me drinking anything. Thats why i
left early. The funny thing about that evening was the challenge board the stuff
set up for a guy, who had his last day of work on that day. I have never seen
challenges this painful, disgusting and embarrassing. But he completed every
single one of those:
Next stop after Chiang Mai was Pai. A genuinely famous and popular
destination among travellers. The party vibe is not as intense as in Chiang Mai,
but people still enjoy drinking the whole day. This place is known as a Hippie
place with its places to hang out, chill, smoke and drink. Loads of people come
here for couple of days, but end up spending weeks there and starting to work
there as volunteers.
It is a really decent city / village with true
potential to spend a lot of time there, but for me it was just like Chiang Mai
too much. People drinking all day and sitting and talking.
Though there are
things to do around Pai like the waterfalls and the "Grand Canyon", which i went
to with Max, Mikaela and Angela.
Still, i prefer places where you do not find
more tourists than local people.
After Pai i made my way up to Laos to the border. But before that i stopped
in Chiang Rai for 2 nights. Just to relax from all the socializing again
:).
I did go to one place, it was the white temple. Supposed to be beautiful,
which it is, but i am already sort of sick of all those temples. I need a break.
So i took one picture from 29 miles away and that was the result. I am sorry, i
didnt even try this time:
So next stop, border to Laos.
No philosophy session this time. I need to skip this. :(.
See ya.
